Amsterdam 30th August - 1st September

Five weekends in August eh? Perhaps that makes up for two of them being underwater… Let’s squeeze the last bit of Summer out of the month. We’re almost at September, so let’s see it off in style. Read on to find out about the fun, the sporty, and the downright strange events going on this weekend in Amsterdam.

Hannekes Nazomerfeest!

Hannekes Boom in the day
  • Friday, 22:00 - 05:00
  • Free!
  • Centrum

Right, so summer in Amsterdam didn’t go quite as planned. Don’t despair! It’s not over yet. And since we are not the only ones hoping for summer reaching in September, Hannekes is throwing last blowout. Come join us to celebrate the (NOT) end of summer. The motto for the evening: ‘nothing is necessary, everything is allowed’. Up to you what that means!

As always at Hannekes the entry is free and the atmosphere is gezellig. There’s an amazing line-up from 10pm all the way to 5am and into the beautiful summer morning hours.

Klassiek concert op het Marie Heinekenplein

  • Friday 19:30 - 21:00
  • Free!
  • De Pijp

The Amiticia Landsmeer is an orchestra consisting of 65 musicians. This Friday, they will be performing at the Marie Heinekenplein in Amsterdam. Surprisingly, this square’s acoustics are similar to that of the Concertgebouw. Professional classical music performed at a quirky outdoors venue does not happen every weekend – in fact, only once a year. Don’t miss your chance to take part in this lovely cultural experience under the beautiful Amsterdam sun this Friday. Check out De Tulp of De Groene Vlinder for drinks afterwards.

  • Scheveningen (The Hague)

Unfortunately Amsterdam isn’t exactly the best place for surfing, no matter how hard you paddle. But take yourself down to the Hague this weekend for a mixture of surfing, skateboarding, and parties. Whether you’re comfortable on the board, spend most of your time up to your neck in salty water, or prefer to watch from the sandy shores, there’s something here for you. Plus, everyone knows surfers like a good party, so stick around and see what happens.

Tacos & Cumbia

  • Saturday 18:00 - 01:00
  • Free!
  • Oost

Long story short: Amazing Place, Amazing Food!

Roest is a city-beach oasis with a sandy terrace and a spacious bar. There will also be some tacos to share (or keep to yourself…). Combine that with the rhythmic sounds of Cumbia and a good evening is certain! So if dancing after tacos – or even with your tacos – sounds good to you, come to Roest this Saturday. DJs from 18:00 with Rengo Estar and DJ Pinchado in the booth. The entry is free and so are the good vibes!

Humid summer nights evoke a certain nostalgia and contemplation. During this mystical evening, you will explore the poetry of the legendary Rumi while soothing your soul with transcendental Sufi whirling. Align yourself with nature and the whole universe this Saturday. This is a workshop which absolutely cannot be missed by those looking for something a little deeper. Spots are limited to just ten people, so get your tickets as soon as possible.

Ever wondered how you can get fit while sitting down? This might be the solution to your problems. Okay, so it’s not a sofa, and it might be a little wet for Netflix, but you get what I’m on about. These guys are doing a free thirty minute taster session so you can see what it’s like to skate (or splash) your way down the Amstel. So whether you’re after a leg workout or just fancy trying out a new sport, head on down this Sunday and do your best to stay dry.
