What’s on Amsterdam? January week #2

Amsterdam, January 10th - 12th

New year, new decade, new things to do and people to meet. There’s no better time to creep out of your comfort zone and shake things up! This week, we’ve got a mixture of our best hangouts for you to join in and meet some friendly faces, and other awesome events happening in the city. Embrace the new year! See what’s on Amsterdam January week #2!

Regeneration @ De School

De School Art exhibition opening
  • Friday 21:00
  • Free!
  • West

Everything around us demands fleeting fixated attention. As our tunnel vision jumps between parts, we lose awareness of the whole. We forget our surroundings. This Friday, re-immerse yourself in your context.

This collaboration between Uncoated Studio, De School, and a selection of artists and photographers is designed to do just that. It opens this Friday and runs until March. Access through the club entrance. Jump in, and re-engage with your perspective.

Downtempo beats @ OT301

Cartoon shaman pointing in the wind
  • Friday 23:00 - 03:00
  • 7
  • West

Everyone is officially in a rush. We fly between appointments and give ourselves barely a moment to think. Then the tempo increases when we go out to house and techno. Correlation?

Perhaps we all need to slow down a little. OT301’s Esoterica features pioneer of the downtempo movement, Daniel Zuur (Kraut), and OT debuting Elfwings. They bring you sounds that bring you closer to the world around you and give you space to reflect. Or in Esoterica’s words, initiate ‘cosmic change, not only conscious but also embracing the world itself as a metaphysical and musical reference’.

Have a listen to Kraut’s Gardens of Babylon set. It will make the world seem a more beautiful, more mystical place.

€7 on the door.

Free Vegan Cheese Tasting

Free vegan cheese tasting
  • Saturday 11:00 - 18:00
  • Free!
  • Centrum

I tend to get a little over excited when I see the words ‘free’ and ‘cheese’ appear in the same sentence. The ‘vegan’ is a bit of a curveball, but then it is veganuary for many of us, and the new year is a worthy time to reflect on what we eat and where it comes from.

The Hoxton Market are going all out with their new year’s resolution to eat less animal-derived products, so even if that’s not your thing, the worst case scenario is you try a new variety of our favourite fermented product. And when it’s free what can you really say?

Little Big Brunch @ Coffee & Coconuts

  • Sunday 10:00 - 13:00
  • 10-15
  • De Pijp

The next in our series of brunch hangouts. This is a chance to meet some of the regulars and newcomers to this young institution. We’re a friendly bunch! Don’t be shy.

Every week, we choose one of Amsterdam’s best brunch spots from the extraordinarily plentiful supply. We meet, eat, and talk. Bring stories, bring ideas, be yourself.

Just three spots left so reserve yours now!

Sunday Roots @ Noorderlicht

Noorderlicht roots
  • Sunday 17:00 - 19:00
  • Free!
  • NDSM

Noorderlicht are hosting a free gig this Sunday. Per their ‘roots’ remit they’ve booked in Rusty Trails, conjuring up images of lonesome roads and tumbleweed, salty fishermen and riotous pubs. Enjoy their folky bouncy swinging sound at the tail end of your weekend. Free entry!

Sunday Show

  • Sunday 12:00 - 19:00
  • Free!
  • Jordaan

Some events evade description. Some descriptions evade description even more. This is just such a thing.

From the sounds of it, this Sunday show is an exploration of negative space – an exercise in shifting perspective between what is there and what is not, and an attempt to rationalise – or not rationalise – that tension, which if you subscribe to this are one and the same. Whatever it is, I want to go.

Entrance is free. Beer is not.

Want to get paid to do what you love?

We've got just the thing for you
